This version has a number of improvements, the most notable being support for multiple session windows. For more details on this support, see our article in the October, 1989 issue of 73 Magazine.
There is a known bug with Telnet sessions where output will sometimes be displayed in the wrong window. This will be corrected in a later release.
There is a known bug that causes the alarm to ring after you have created a new session and are attempting to enter data from the keyboard. If this happens, close the session from the console window and start it again. It will most likely now function properly. This problem will be corrected in a later release.
The 'record' and 'upload' commands will not function properly with the multiple session window support. There is currently no way to specify which session you wish to perform the function to. This will be corrected in a later release.
Additional changes were made with respect to Icons, and temporary files. Color Icons have been included for use with System 7 when it is released by Apple. If you use SunDesk, you can copy the color Icons using ResEdit into SunDesk. Temporary now files have their own Icons, and are common with BM/Mac Icons, so that they will appear correctly when either application is running or updating temp files.

Release Notes for BM/Mac Version 900415.0 (2.0)

This version corrects a number of problems with BM on the Macintosh. Most notably the ability to print properly using the Laserwriter printer.
The 'About' and the 'Help' Items under the Apple Menu are no longer available, since this release was compiled under Think C version 4.0, because Libraries do not exist for these functions at this time. Possibly a future release will re-implement these. However, the Help system is still available if you use the '?' command at the prompt.

The following changes have been made the Macintosh Version of Phil Karn's TCP/IP code for Amateur Radio.
If you have been using any previous version of this program, please read the READ.ME document and note the changes that have been made as outlined below:
1. The program now has seperate windows for Trace, Log, and Connections. These window must be resided to your taste each time you launch MacNET. (Future release may improve this). Only one trace window may be active at a time. Using the 'trace' command will automatically open a window, so you must issue the 'trace [interface] 000' command before you can trace another interface.
2. MacNET and MacBM now both function under MultiFinder. However it is highly recommended you have 2.5 or more Megabytes of memory. Each of these programs will run seperately on a Macintosh 512Ke. If you are running on a 512Ke, be sure to use the correct version of the system software (4.1/5.5).
3. The Geneva 10 size font is required for the Help files, so check this if the help files look strange.
4. MacBinary file transfer protocol has been added to ftp sessions. Before you use MacBinary format you must be in an active ftp session. To invoke MacBinary mode, issue the following command: macb enable Even if you are connected to a Non-Macintosh host, to transfer a Macintosh formatted file, this command will turn on MacBinary mode on the ftp client. To leave MacBinary mode, enter: macb disable This is a very convenient function when transferring files between two Macintosh stations.
5. Appletalk support has been corrected, and now works more reliably. As a result the attach command syntax has changed. Refer to the sample 'autoexec.net' file for details. There are a few minor bugs with AppleTalk support, getting CRC errors, but the sessions do complete properly.
6. Net/ROM support has been included with this release. Please refer to the Net/ROM documentation for information on using this function.
7. The finger command has also be added to this release. Finger will return a text file from the finger folder per the request of the calling station. You may have as many text files as you wish in this folder, however they must all have the suffix .txt appended to their name (with no spaces in the filename).
8. On non-ADB keyboards (Mac 512, Plus's), the Command key is now used as the Control key. For the old keyboards, you may also use the 'escape <key>' command in the autoexec.net file to specify any keystroke for the escape key function.
9. Help files have now been included as separate functions. Typing a ? or Help (? in BM) will bring up a help window. Every effort has been made to make these files helpful and complete.
10. A new command has been added to the AX25 group of commands. ax25 heard on (ax25 h on)
now lists in chronological order the last 30 stations that have been heard by the TNC. Refer to the Help function for syntax to this command.
11. A mailbox function has allso been added for the AX25 users who connect to your TCP/IP host. To enable this function you use the following command (which may be in the autoexec.net file): mbox on There is little or no documentation on this function. Feel free to write your own and forward it to us...!!!
12. CAUTION: When using MacBM, remember to press the 'return' key at the end of each line. Most Host stations cannot handle line longer than 128 characters (the Mac version will handle 256). If you receive a mail message without returns at least every 255 characters, the system will crash with a hard boot.... If you send mail to another non-Macintosh host, with over 128 characters in a line, you will crash that host!!! Please be careful and courteous.
13. Path names are now fully supported in the Macintosh version. This means that you may bury MacNet and MacBM is any folder as deep as you like (within reason). In your ftpusers file you may now specify a seperate volume for each user, or path for specific files. As an example, I have an AppleShare file server with my ftpusers file pointing all users to the AppleShare server volume and a folder. The ftpuser file entry looks like this: doug n6oyu Appleshare:ham:tcpip:pub 7 Experiment with this to see how far you may go. A further note, in the interest of not confusing MS-DOS users, do not use spaces in your file names and path names.
14. MacBM does not support an external editor, like the MS-DOS versions. It currently contains a very simple line editor. It does however, now support the Paste function, so you may use any standard text editor to create mail messages, and paste them into MacBM... Remember however the caution above concerning line length. Refer to the 'Text editing commands' in the Help file.
15. MacBM (and MacNet) supports the use of an 'alias' file for sending mail. This simplifies your life by allowing you to specify an complete mail path for each of your common users. ANOTHER IMPORTANT CAUTION: Do NOT have an alias entry for yourself, as the mail system will try to send mail to itself, and get lost in an endless loop. Look at the 'alias' file included with this distribution for examples of typical entries.
